Government employees across Telangana staged coordinated lunch-hour demonstrations on Friday, pressing the state administration to address long-pending demands and honour commitments made earlier.
The protests were organised under the banner of Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee, representing employees, teachers, officers, workers and pensioners.
Protests across key locations
Demonstrations were held at major government offices, including the Secretariat, Hyderabad Collectorate and Bhima Bhavan, along with mandal and district offices across the state.
At the Secretariat, employees wearing black badges gathered at the main entrance, holding placards and staging a sit-in as a mark of protest.
Key demands raised
The joint action committee has called on the government to initiate and implement the second Pay Revision Committee before June 2.
It has also demanded the immediate release of pending dues amounting to ₹13,000 crore for pensioners, the formulation of clear guidelines for the Employee Health Scheme (EHS), and the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme, which was promised during the 2023 Assembly elections.
Phased agitation plan
The current demonstrations mark the first phase of a broader protest strategy.
According to the committee, the decision to escalate agitation was taken at a state-level meeting held earlier this month, with plans to intensify protests in stages if demands remain unaddressed.
Rising pressure on the state government
The coordinated nature of the protests across multiple districts highlights growing dissatisfaction among government employees and pensioners.
As the agitation unfolds, the focus will shift to how the state responds to demands related to pay revision, pension liabilities and welfare measures, which have significant financial and administrative implications.
