Oracle To Cut 700 Jobs In California By June: Report

Oracle has started implementing job reductions in California, with around 700 employees expected to be laid off by 1 June, according to a report by The New York Post, citing state records. The move is part of a broader restructuring exercise by the technology company as it aligns operations with shifting priorities and increased investment in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure.

As per the report by The New York Post, citing state filings, the layoffs are spread across several locations in California, including Redwood City, Santa Clara, Pleasanton, and Santa Monica. The reductions are part of a wider workforce restructuring programme that has impacted thousands of employees globally, reflecting continued cost optimisation efforts.

The report noted that Oracle has begun issuing notifications to affected employees in line with California’s mandatory WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) requirements, which require advance notice for large-scale layoffs. These regulations are designed to ensure transparency and provide time for workers to prepare for employment transitions.

According to the state filings cited by The New York Post, 310 employees will be affected in Redwood City, 184 in Santa Clara, 158 in Pleasanton, and 50 in Santa Monica. The California job cuts form part of a broader global restructuring exercise that has reportedly impacted around 30,000 roles across the company.

The report added that the layoffs come even as Oracle continues to expand investment in cloud computing and AI-driven data centre infrastructure. Industry observers believe the restructuring reflects a strategic shift towards high-growth technology areas while reducing costs in legacy operations.

It was also reported that affected employees were informed through internal communication channels, with details regarding severance packages and transition timelines provided as part of the exit process. The layoffs are expected to be completed by early June, in line with regulatory notice requirements.
